The Sports Institute of Yunnan University, the Traditional Archery Association of Yunnan, and the Kunming Zhengji Archery Club have committed to supporting the development of archery, wushu, and boxing in Nepal.
During a meeting in Yunnan, China, representatives from the Nepal Wushu Federation, the Martial Arts Organisation of Nepal, and the National Sports Council (NSC) met with officials from Yunnan University. NSC member and Chairperson of the Nepal Boxing Association, Prakash Kumar Kusari, stated that the university officials expressed their commitment to supporting these sports.
Vice-President of the Nepal Wushu Federation, Abhishek Bikram Shah, and Deputy General-Secretary, Rajeev Maharjan, were also present at the meeting.
Following the discussions, both sides signed an 11-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Vice-President Shah and the President of the Traditional Archery Association of Yunnan, Cong Wizhang, signed the MoU.
The MoU stipulates the exchange of visits by instructors; the university and the association providing training opportunities to Nepali players; jointly organizing at least one program annually; assisting in developing new players; conducting cultural exchanges and raising social awareness for the development of traditional archery, wushu, and wrestling; encouraging participation in competitions; and running awareness campaigns for these sports.
Vice-President Shah expressed his belief that the MoU will contribute to promoting cultural tourism along with sports development. He also stated that Nepal could achieve outstanding results in Asian and South Asian competitions if archery and wushu are taught at the school level.
During the discussions, NSC member Kusari expressed gratitude to China for its continuous support to Nepal's sports sector and infrastructure development. He hoped that this cooperation would continue in the future.
President of the Traditional Archery Association, Cong Wizhang, along with officials Wang Jongping and Wang Fan, remarked that Nepal is a good neighbor of China. They expressed confidence that the exchange of bilateral cooperation would further strengthen people-to-people relations.
