The Asia Rugby Emirates Men's Sevens Trophy 2024 is all set to kick off today.
General Secretary of Nepal Rugby Association Govinda Ghimire shared at a press conference that all the preparations for the tournament to be held at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar have been completed.
A total of 16 Asian countries are competing in the tournament. Altogether 14 men's team and seven women teams are participating in the event. The participating countries include Bahrain, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Pakistan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Guam and host Nepal.
The association said all the teams have arrived in Kathmandu for the tournament.
The Nepali national rugby teams are being led Srishan Rai in the women’s category and Bikram Puri in the men’s segment. This tournament is a qualifier for the Asia Rugby Sevens Series to be held in 2025.
Organized by Asia Rugby and managed by Nepal Rugby Association, 30 matches will be played on the first day and 20 matches on the second day.
This is the first time that Nepal is hosting such a senior level Asian rugby tournament.
